The 2011 season for the Reds team -- featuring hot batter Carter Austin and hot coach Jim Austin -- has come to a close.
Tonight we wrapped up WRYSA league play with a makeup game from the rainy part of the season in weeks 1 or 2. After not playing all week, we kind of felt like the season was done already. For those of us on the bench anyway, it seemed more like a fun night than an intense, real game. But it was real.
And so was the loss.
Coach let the guys pick their positions on defense so Carter got to pitch one inning. Ha. Actually he did just fine. Both defensively and offensively. The whole team did. We just couldn't quite catch the Yankees, but almost. We lost 13-11, which means lots of guys got on base and hopefully ended their season on a positive note.
I know I enjoyed cooking, er keeping, the books with the other member of the Coaches' Wives Club. I'll miss that.
But it also will be nice now to just cheer on the tournament team with no other obligation than to encourage Carter, keep an eye on the assistant coach ... and let the umpire know when he's wrong.
Or just shove my mouth full of popcorn so I can't yell at anyone. Yeah, let's try that instead.
