It's strange to not have a basketball player in the house. It is definitely less running around at this time of year, but we are still going to school on the way home from work each day to pick up Mr. Pumping Iron. And we'll still get to all the high school home games -- boys and girls -- since Carter will be playing in Pep Band. So we can sort of be basketball parents, in a hugely remotely connected way.
This afternoon, hubby mentioned the middle school boys have their first home game this evening. He was planning to see the 8th-graders play and both Carter and I wanted to go with. Why?
Well Jim wanted to watch some of the players who were on Carter's baseball team. I wanted to see and visit with some of the moms on that team. And Carter wanted to bond with some of the 8th-graders' older sisters.
(Oh yes, a mother doesn't lie.)
So went to the game. Jim got to visit with a dad and watch. I got to hang out with the lawnchair cheerleaders and Carter sat on the stage at the end of the gym with 3 girls. Even though we were remotely paying attention, I can recall we did win. By a large margin. So a win-win for all.
Next time, though, I will have to be more considerate of the those moms. They probably actually want to see their kids play!
One month into the off-season and I've already forgotten what it's like. With up to 40 games in the next 3 months, I better remember!
