Just one more sleep until my purple pride goes into maximum overdrive!
The Minnesota Twins will celebrate "Prince Night" at Target Field tomorrow to honor the late Minneapolis icon who passed away one year ago.
According to the Twins website: "All of us in the Twins organization were deeply saddened by the loss of the late Minneapolis icon Prince," said Twins President and CEO Dave St. Peter. "Along with our fans, we look forward to remembering the legacy of a man who brought an international spotlight to our great city."
When I heard of this promotion a few months ago, I was like, yep I need to be there! Especially a Friday night game. I can swing that. Hubby, a Reds fan and very non-80s music fan, passed on the opportunity. I asked around at a family gathering in April and waa-laa, we have 11 of us going tomorrow night.
I have tomorrow off so I can get over to the Twin Cities early. The plan (which I won't have time to blog about tomorrow night) is that I get to my niece's house by noon so Caryn and I can golf 9 holes. Then we'll cool off and head to the game with any of my sisters or nieces or nephews who arrive at her house in time. Why do we need to get to the game early?
Well... Prince Night features a variety of honors and festivities:
- The first 10,000 fans to Target Field will receive a "Purple Rain" umbrella
- Immediately following the seventh inning stretch, fans in possession of the Purple Rain umbrella will remain standing and open the umbrella for a special moment in remembrance of Prince.
- Prince music will be played throughout the ballpark pre-game and in-game.
- Twins players and staff will wear a special Prince themed T-shirt during batting practice.
- The T-shirts will be auctioned off at twinsbaseball.com to benefit Achieve Minneapolis for music grants in Minneapolis Public Schools.
- Students from Minneapolis Public Schools will be singing during the Seventh Inning Stretch.
- Prince-themed Fireworks will take place following the conclusion of the game between the Twins and Cleveland Indians.
And let's not forget the Twins are in first place in the central division, just ahead of Cleveland!
So yeah. I am a little on the excited side. As Prince would say, let's go crazy! Let's get nuts!
