Always With Us In Spirit

Somewhere west of the county line, where the moon shines bright and you can see the stars, a dream was born. A man and his wife wanted to a build a nice cabin one day that would be more than a "hunting shack," but rather a place for family and friends to gather. For generations to come.

When God unexpectedly took the man to live with Him last May, the dream faltered for a minute. But it didn't die.

His surviving best friend and their kids decided they were going to see this through. For his sake and theirs. A foundation was laid. Construction began. And nail by nail, his love and spirit was built into the walls, the fireplace, the bunkhouse, and his wife's special porch. As sure as the stars were shining brightly last night, he is there. Everywhere.

And most importantly, in our memories and in our hearts.

It's not finished. Or move-in ready. But the "centerpiece" is done. And this weekend it was surrounded by his family and a dozen or so of us who were lucky to know him, befriend him, and love him.

We still love him. Now we just have to show it through our hugs with Brenda and the kids. And anyone walking around with a Greg-sized hole in their heart.

It was such a nice evening. We laughed, ate, drank, sang, even danced. We know he was smiling down on us, wishing he could offer to get us a drink or something to eat and for sure, call out the name of the song playing before anyone could guess it. That's our Greg.

He had a big heart, big dreams, and wanted a big legacy.

All we can do is keep loving on him and his family and make it happen. Everything else is pretty inconsequential in comparison, don't you think?
