License to Drive

We didn't announce to the whole world that Carter was taking his driver's license test today. You just never know how it's going to turn out. And after last night's parallel parking attempts, I really didn't know!

Guess which 16-year-old got lucky and did NOT have to parallel park as part of his test??

This kid! Triumphantly holding up his driver's license next to his "new" car!

He said it went quite well. And I guess I can't question that since he's got the temporary piece of paper to prove it (until the real card comes in the mail next week). He finished quickly enough (within speed limits, naturally) that he had time to go back to baseball practice. Jim picked up Lukas and brought him home.

I whipped up some of long-anticipated Loaded Banana Bread, which Lukas enjoyed, and then three of us headed up to the Stevens Point to Buffalo Wild Wings to celebrate "Good job, Carter" and
"Goodbye, Lukas." (Jim could not come because he was judging baseball tryouts.)

Lukas was intrigued by the large number of TVs hanging about the place, all showing different sports. For the meal, Lukas ordered medium-to-hot wings, I ordered not quite hot and Carter ordered super hot, hot and even more hot. I don't know how he managed to eat that. Lukas and I were fighting back tears with our own levels of hot!

Uff da!

Still, it was great to spend time with my boys. I can't believe Lukas still will be gone in some 36 hours. Carter can't believe how much he'll cry by the time they board Thursday for their journey home.

But that still leaves 20-plus hours to do something. Maybe even something that doesn't involve those large portions of American Food – Just blood and sweat and mostly tears!

Or maybe a nice ride with our new driver in the countryside!
