It was great to spend a Sunday watching baseball -- especially Carter's tournament team, which hadn't advanced to Sunday playoffs yet this summer.
The way this tournament was organized (bracket-wise), the teams that were 1-1 on Saturday advanced to their own 1-1 bracket on Sunday. In the first game for the Rapids Rage, we were pretty awake for a morning game (I think they learned their lesson Saturday) and we pulled off a win!
Carter got on with some walks but didn't see a hit in the first game. Here he is listening to Coach Mark at third base.
Carter stands at third, ready to head for home!
He runs, he slides, he scores! Here Carter gets up after a safe slide across home plate. It was a good feeling to get some runs and win the first game! Unfortunately, the boys got no break on the hot, muggy morning. They had to immediately play the championship game for the 1-1 bracket. Their opponent had about an hour break and that could have made the difference (not that I'm making excuses).
Hubby coaches first base after Brandon (Coach Mark's son) gets on with a hit.
Looking, looking, looking... I hope that ball was outside because Carter obviously isn't primed to swing at it! He struck out in the final game looking on full count. Not good.
The game was called due to the 10-run rule. That really stinks when it's for a trophy versus a medal! But the boys were still good sports.
Carter gets his second-place medal from Coach.
Do I detect a little dejection? Yes, it's tough to lose even if you get something for it.
At least the boys smiled for a team photo and showed off their "hardware."
Here's some irony for you Carter fans out there. Can you believe he is the only serious one in this picture? Very, very unlike him! Good to know all 11- and 12-year-old boys are hot dogs!
Finally, he cracks a smile... but only because he knows Mom needs at least one nice picture for the scrapbook :)
Ahhh well. Onto next weekend...
