Fans of Caddyshack are familiar with the concept of "see the ball; be the ball" when we golf. The focus is key and is supposed to help. In most situations. Trust me, when all you see is the ball, that makes for a challenge.
Tonight I participated (won't bother saying competed) in a night golf scramble to benefit the South Wood County Humane Society.
We called our team Orange Crush because well, we like the color orange... and we all have a crush on golfer Rickie Fowler, who always wears orange on Sundays.I even designed some team masks – which we didn't need on the course, but made for a cute team photo.
The event was at Tri-City, which is only 9 holes. Good when your shotgun start is at 8:45 p.m.
The only sources of light were our balls (like green one in top photo), our glow sticks, and glow markers on the course for yard markers, fairways, hazards, and the flag stick. Kind of scary driving carts, I gotta admit. It wasn't long before this is all the light we had and then, even less than that.
By the last hole, it was after 11 p.m. and just plain dark out. Very hard to gauge distance, read putts, and have good depth perception when striking the ball. But boy, did we have fun!
Just because curse words were flying like the glowing balls on the course doesn't mean we weren't enjoying ourselves. It was a really a good time. Had a few pars and no birdies. But lots of laughs. It's quite a unique experience. If you ever get the chance to do it, try it.
If you can't Crush it in the talent category, you certainly can in the fun department!
