I was actually a bit surprised when I sat down at my computer that's it's still Monday. Seems like today was 3 days long. Not sure yet if that's a good thing or bad thing.
It was a full and fast work day with some midday appointments squeezed in. And then... nothing.
I sat in Mr Deck Chair and finished listening to my audio book – The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd – and will give it 5 stars. Don't let the concept of the plot deter you. Yes, it's set in biblical times. And yes, the main character is married to Jesus. But there's so, so, so much more to the story.
Based on other similar books considered fiction but also well-researched, I trust that how women are portrayed in this book – having no rights and no say and no power – is accurate. And sad and frustrating. But there are victories.
Just lots of stuff worthy of discussion.
And frankly, I'm wondering if I would've gotten into it as quickly if I read the book instead of listened to it. If you find it on a free service like Libby, or end up buying it on Audible, it's a good listen. And I may have cried.
I also finished the book I'd had on hold for months. It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. Finished it late last night in bed. Another high rating from me. One bookworm friend told me about this author and then another bookwork friend had a copy of it. Tough subject matter in that one, too.
Also worthy of discussion.
Pretty sure I need to delve into a light read now. This is what Robyn is like with free time. Ha. Who cares about housework?! These books don't read themselves.
Well, unless they're audio. Then I guess they sort of do.
Hope you had as productive of a Monday!
