And We All Fall Down

After getting delayed on my commute by at least 20 minutes today just trying to navigate through Plover, I was reminded in the back of mind about a Michael Douglas movie where he totally lost it in a traffic jam. I get you, man.

With some quick research, thank you Google, I realized it was called Falling Down and released in 1993. They labeled it "The adventures of an ordinary man at war with the everyday world." That's most of us every day, isn't it?

I'm not sure why I went to see it in the theater other than there were few entertainment options then. Plus I was single and some guy probably promised me popcorn. Ha.

In the movie, his character is desperately trying to get to the birthday party of his daughter (living with his ex-wife) and basically has a breakdown and leaves his car in a traffic jam in Los Angeles and decides to walk.

While I do need my steps, I was in no mood to get out and walk – first it was still 10 miles to work. And secondly, the temps dropped down to just a high of like 52 today. I will cope with my impatience in my heated driver's seat, thank you.

But it probably did fuel my attitude for day where I was pretty impatient with some people who had no time to acknowledge or appreciate my offer to help, etc. Some days are like that. Are our mid-50s the age we lose our filter to NOT get defensive about things like that? I think so.

And I hate that and I regret that.

But am I ready (well, mature enough) to extend an olive branch? Knowing my luck, it would blow away in these cold spring winds.

Lord, help me!

Political Poll: Half Full, Half Empty, Don't Care

When you get home from work and the sun is setting, yet you see the moon... Well, you gotta take pictures. When I saw it was possibly going to have some "silhouette branches" in front of it, I zoomed in to take a picture.

Then I realized the moon looked like it was trapped in some sort of bondage. Definitely the wrong angle.

Then I thought, just take the half moon for what it's worth. It could mean we wasted so much of the first half of "something." Or it could mean we're just starting. You see less than half of what's to come, but we've got a great thing on the way!

Maybe after all the politics we're burnt out about whether we're half full, half empty, or fully just don't care.

But let's focus on the sliver of brightness that is showing and continue to work on that until we're full and those who matter know it! I vote for that.

Hello, Sunshine

I love this saying as this week I've definitely had to focus on the sunshine and positive rather than anything negative – grief, work or otherwise – going on in life. And, by coincidence, 3 of the past 4 nights I've taken senior portraits at a nearby sunflower field.

It kinda makes you want to visit a sunflower field, doesn't it? Plus, I really love the sunflower concept that it can't help itself but follow the sun and the bright side of things.

Sometimes we just need to look at smiling faces and realize we not only want that, we can have that.

And we can do it without a sunflower field. But it's not as pretty!

P.S. Arnold's Strawberries should be in bloom for the rest of the week if you want to smile and express your inner sunshine!

Christmas-ish in June!

Let's face it. After yesterday's shit show of a day, I deserved something positive. And boy did I get it.

First of all, as I exited the house this morning I told hubby I was going to have a positive day. The only thing I could control is my attitude so I said I'd make it a good one. It worked.

Morning went well and as soon as I returned to my computer after lunch, I received an email from my boy E over at SentryWorld that my golf clubs had arrived! As you recall, I came into a little lump sum of cash after winning a big raffle at school. So I went through the whole fitting process and putting together a set of golf clubs I actually use.

I was anticipating they'd arrive by my birthday at the end of June. Instead, Christmas came early!

I happened to scout out a blue-ish bag and that matched the clubs (covers at least) so I picked that up at Dunham's on the way home.

The set I purchased on Facebook marketplace a few years ago did not have the very useful 7 iron. So I'm so happy to have that back in my bag!

Since I've gotten used to and hit my hybrids OK, I now have a 4,-5-, and 6-hybrid in my bag. I'm mostly excited to try the 4-hybrid. I needed that distance club but the one I purchased last year at a sporting goods store was too long for this short golfer. And I never got the hang of it. We'll see how this one works for me!

The timing is perfect as I have golf league Thursday night and can try out everything. They better work – based on my investment!

The only club I have yet to retain or purchase is my putter. I do have some spare change for that – or could use it on lessons on how to putt. I'll see how tomorrow goes!

I've been reminded that clubs don't make me a better golfer. But my excitement and confidence level have skyrocketed in one day without even swinging!

Merry Christmas to me! 🏌
