Since it was a perfectly sunny and calm afternoon, I took the new camera (another Nikon, but much enhanced) out for a test paddle on the river with our friends Mike and Cindy. I should write commentary but mostly I don't need to. I think you'll see why I'm so happy. As always, you can click on the photo to view it larger.
When we first saw this eagle flying I hoped with all my might we'd actually see one landing, in a tree, sitting still for me to photograph. Spoiler alert... that does come later.
Had to play around with a few settings, like shooting my fellow kayakers from quite a ways away. Very pleased with the variety and the crispness of the shots.
So calm, we didn't need to paddle much for the first half.
I might be part turtle because I am a fan of sunning, too.
But dang, they are ugly!
This might be rated R. Hmmm.
Pretty blue!
Visitor. Calendar shot. Ha!
Another sunner...
Talking to the 3 amigos...
OMG! He has Godzilla feet! Eek!
Jim paddles toward the Kraft Mill, where his dad worked until retirement. That is our turnaround point since it's the western edge of the island we go around.
The guys spotted an eagle before I did. I had to stealthily paddle into a cove and I was thrilled when I got this close. But then he just sat there and I go several more.
Meanwhile, a second eagle was fishing in the cove. I saw it dive down and sit but it was just too far away and then left before I got close enough to focus and shoot. The supervising eagle up above let me drift right up under him practically!
A young eagle learning a thing or two about hunting.
"Lady, you done taking my picture now?"
Baby sunner.
Blue heron. Very pretty. So many layers of blue. Love it!
Wow.
And it ended how it started, with that same majestic eagle circling overhead...
And some 200+ pictures between flights.
