So Much for Hot August Nights

Hard to believe that the phrase "hot August nights" is popular. It's the last day of August and lows are supposed to dip down to about 45 or 46-ish. You know what that means...

This is not me – as in actually me. But it is definitely me in spirit. My twin shared this with me today. She knew right were my mind was at!

That's really all I've got for today. Have photo shoots pretty much every evening this week so I'll get back to you when I can. Enjoy the "good sleeping weather" anyway!

Day of Rest (with Some Cursing)

When you roll out of bed and straight to the golf course – after a late night – there's bound to be a little cursing. First, that the wake-up temp as only 48 degrees. (Hot August nights is a fairy tale.). Then missing a few par putts by mere inches.

Still, what a fun way to keep my friend Christine's birthday weekend going. She brought her brother along and a mutual friend of ours. We had blast. A lot, lot, lot of laughing!

That was about it for ambition today.

Hubby also golfed today – but later and with some guy friends. So I spent quality time with Mr. Deck Chair, just catching rays and reading. Some random house work but nothing major. Then a senior photo shoot this evening. Lighting was good and the kid was a cutie patootie (I'm sure he loves that description).

But he was. And it was fun. And there a dozens of good ones. So I can call it a day!

Two more senior shoots this week plus tennis so I hope Mother Nature continues to cooperate! Don't necessarily need jacket weather, though. But as long as it's dry, we're all good, Momma!

Skatter Day

Our Saturday was quite the Scattered Day Saturday as we were all over the place.

I had signed up for a virtual 5K to benefit our local ODC (Opportunity Development Center) and decided to do it this morning since I had to drop off a book at my friend's house, which is about a mile and a half away.

The best thing about a virtual 5K? It's not timed so you can enjoy a coffee station pit stop versus a water station at the halfway point.

Great having morning sips and chit-chat. And I'll still get a race t-shirt, of course. #winning

This afternoon we helped our good friend Christine celebrate her upcoming 50th birthday. Headed down to their family saloon in Adams County and got to see family and friends we haven't seen much of (or any of) during the pandemic!

And naturally nice to see the birthday girl, who lives far far away down by the Kenosha-Racine area.

After that it was one more event. Yup, summer's almost over so we gotta squeeze lots in each day.

We went up in Marshfield to watch our nephew Colin race. Kind of exciting he got fast time in qualifying so I got some pictures before it got dark. And cold. Yup. Jeans and sweatshirt weather already.

They had a 60-lap main feature that literally started around my bedtime – after 9:30 p.m.! After plenty of cautions (thankfully not our boy), the race wrapped up after 11 p.m., with Colin crossing the finish line for a hard-fought 5th place. Nice work, kiddo.

Home as the clock strikes 12. Guess who's gonna sleep good after this crazy Scatter Day!? That and current temp of 55. Night!

Rain Delay

Mother Nature doesn't mess around when she brings much-needed rain. This is our rain gauge from this morning. Yup, that's almost 2.25 inches in just a few hours. Needless to say, there's flash flood watches in the area.

Oh, and my flowers live to see another day.

Our household activities got rain delayed until this afternoon and evening and that worked fine. Hubby got to golf and I got in a senior portrait session.

That was fun. This Assumption mom is about to send off one son to college and now the second one is embarking on his senior year. Both of them were at the shoot for a little bit. Picture two football players picking on each other as brothers do. What a hoot.

The best part is that since this shoot was originally scheduled for Thursday, I was thinking it was Thursday night. What a nice surprise that it's Friday and I don't have to set an alarm.

Mother Nature makes it hard for me to stay mad at her.

No Love in the Forecast

Why am I sitting home on a Thursday night watching a Hallmark movie called Love in the Forecast? Well,  it could be because I have control of the remote tonight. Truth. Or it could be that I have rain on the brain since it ruined two photo shoots tonight.

The only "love" I expected to see today was of the tennis score variety. Was all set to shoot the Royals home match tonight when it rained. Hard. I maybe got pictures of a handful of serves and hits and that was it.

Playing for cousin Cale! #CaleStrong

After looking at the "non-friendly to tennis" radar, they called the rest of the match off. Hopefully they can reschedule, but at least they have another one set for Tuesday – if weather and pandemic cooperate.

I also looked closely at the radar since I had a senior photo shoot coming up right after that at 6 p.m. The radar was very non-friendly for that, too. So I rescheduled that for tomorrow. With fingers crossed.

At least the Hallmark movie had a happy ending. I could have forecast that!

STD (Super Technology Dependent)

Technology is great. Until it isn't. Ever have one of those days where you wish you were living the simple life and didn't have to rely on technology?

Yeah, me neither. I mean, it does save a lot time and effort for certain tasks. When it works.

Today, the geek squad gods were against me. Had so many issues with my laptop for work. I've been lucky so far, considering I'm 173 days into this and have had decent connectivity. That's one of those fancy words we tech-dependent folks use.

After what seemed like an extra long day of work – highlighted with impatience and hair pulling – I felt like I needed to hitch up the buggy and take a ride.

Thankfully, I didn't have to go to that extreme, but it would be nice if tomorrow could trot by without complications.  So if you geek gods are listening, I'm thanking you in advance for a productive day with minimal cursing and crashes.

Giddy up!

Visiting Hours Are Over

I guess you can call them visiting hours when your guest is around for less than a day. Well, almost 24 hours.

Mr. College came up late yesterday afternoon for an eye appointment and to order contacts finally. One of those COVID-related delays. Then we filled his tummy with super yummy goodness from Jennings...

Followed by a social-distancing visit in Grandpa and Grandma Austin's backyard a bit. Then he was off to see a friend for the night. He got home early this afternoon and was on the road to Platteville by 5 p.m. Short and sweet visit between his having to work 'til close Sunday night and having to work tomorrow again.

As usual, it was just a blessing to see him and hug him and spoil him a bit!

It'll hold me for a little while at least. Probably not as long as I think.

Sunday Scrapbook

I can recap my Sunday in 5 words: Look at my cool shirt! Had to wear my new birthday gift shirt today. For Twins fans, we love anything referring to our home run hitting Bomba Squad. Love it! Thanks, Caryn and family.

Now for the other fun yesterday... spending the afternoon with one sister, two nieces and their spouses, 5 great-nephews and 2 great-nieces!

Little M opened her beauty salon and braided my hair on the sides and back. Ooh-la-la!

Then did Michelle's hair. "Ta da! See my masterpiece!"

Check it out! Very cool!

Meanwhile, the boys were showing off on the American Ninja Warrior ropes...

Big M walking across the tight rope. I did that, too, but I didn't look as cute or graceful!

Then A shows off a swinging Tarzan move!

And then fun in the pool. So welcome on a hot, 90-degree day...

If FAITH was a picture, this would be it! You can see my nephew Hans looking lovingly at his daddy and knowing his daddy was going to catch him when he jumped. And he did, of course!

Hans telling his cousin "Shasha" about his big jump!

"I'm cool!"

My niece's hubby knows how to turn the pool into a wave pool! The kiddos loved it!

Riding the waves!

Puzzles are hard, Grandma Nell!

Adorable like my niece Beth. "Mommy, this IS my nice smile!"

My nephew and his dog Beanie, who clearly loves him!

And my beautiful hostess – and niece I've loved the longest!

And her beautiful momma, my sister Renell.

I could see the love and feel the love. It was a great day!

Great Gas Smileage

Put on a lot of miles today. Even though I probably only got one mile's worth of steps on my Fitbit,  I put kn 430 with my car.

Had a nice trip to Twins Territory and back, visiting my niece Caryn and her family in the Twin Cities. I was the ultimate garage saler and bargain hunter this summer and go lots of back-to-school clothes for the 4 kiddos. So I had a special delivery.

My computer is acting up tonight so I have to type this on my phone and all I can share is one picture from it. More to come tomorrow. Great afternoon poolside in the shady backyard.

And spending quality time with family!

Cloudy with a Chance of Birdies

Overnight rains made the course more than a little wet in spots, but that didn't stop about 20 foursomes from teeing off at Bulls Eye Country Club at noon to support the Assumption football program.

Lots of carts lined up behind us as we were leading the field (of carts, that is) on the back nine, starting on hole 17.

I golfed with friends Amy and Jeff and their friend Ron. I'd like to brag about girl power here but the guys could hit that ball pretty far. I managed some decent drives to use, though. Putting was not bad, but not good enough to get many birdies, dang. We finished 3 over par and considering the winners were under par by many strokes, we just had fun. And gave air high fives when we sunk our big putts.

We got rained on the last two holes otherwise it was just mostly cloudy and mild temperatures. A very good time!

The funny part was at the awards ceremony/meal when hubby won a prize...

Nobody in his foursome read the sign that this was for WOMEN ONLY. So he wrote his name and took a lot of grief because no one (females, that is) got closer the pin. The football coach (aka chief organizer of this event) said I get to spend the $20 gift card. Look at me winning without even trying!

That's my kind of golf!

Second Lady of the House

After taking my usual lunch time walk, I turned on the faucet by the front deck and watered my hanging plants before returning to my office chair.

I heard a tapping on the deck doors behind me and hubby was pointing down at Sylvester and signaling toward the garage. I thought he was saying she got out into the garage or something.

Instead, he was telling me to enter the house through the garage – not through the front deck door – so I don't disturb the kitty. I peeked through the window and see her sunbathing on the rug. Yup. Now I know where I rank.

She's definitely the First Lady.

I guess I rank second as long as no one else is visiting. I suppose there are worse things. Especially in 2020!

I'll focus on the positive. It's Friday. A gorgeous day. Had a nice evening eating tasty fish fries and celebrating a friend's freedom from cancer. The cat fight in this house is not worth blogging about.

But she's so pretty – even through the window reflections – that I had to share a picture!

Victory Dance

There's par dances and home run dances and grand slam dances and tonight... a VICTORY DANCE!

Even though it's a very brief baseball season, I'm glad the Twins got a play the Brewers a few times so I could see them on TV. After last night's mishap (can we call a 6-run loss a mishap?), my boys in red (this time) dominated and we beat the Brew Crew quite handily, 7-1.

I actually missed the first half of the game because they started early at 6:10 p.m. and I had book club at the park at 6 p.m. Followed by a quick trip to Walmart. As soon as I got home and turned the TV on, the Brewers scored. Thankfully that was the end of that so I didn't feel like I was jinxing them!

Hubby sat out in the back yard by the fire, listening to his Reds on the radio.

Hopefully this serves as a VICTORY FIRE for both our teams! Hey, you gotta celebrate the small stuff, right?

Throwing the Change-Up

Why do baseball teams change up their uniform style each game? Last night the Brewers had some dark blue with yellow electric company type font – and lost. My twins were wearing white or light gray – and won in extra extra innings.

Tonight, my Twins are in baby blue and playing like Little Leaguers. Down 7 runs! I'll concede to the Crew. And this way, I can go to bed and not have to stay up for a walk-off win at 11:42 p.m. Thank you.

And seriously guys, you could play in your underwear and we'd still watch. It's a very short season and we treasure any chance we can get to watch!

Tomorrow's another day, Twins! #wintwins #twinsterritory

Living Room With A View

Not that I wanted to rush along my church council meeting (via Zoom) tonight. But I had places to go and things to see.

The place was my recliner and the things were my Twins! On TV again! Love this view of Target Field.

I know the season is short this year, but I'm loving that we're playing the Brewers plenty so I can see my boys on TV more often. Not loving that Cruz just blew a grand slam opportunity – especially since my neighbor told me to come up with a Grand Slam Dance – but am liking that we lead 1-0 in the 6th.

So I guess you know the game's not over. Mr. Recliner is calling. And I hope I can SEE a victory tonight!

Sister Shoot

As someone with six sisters who take a long weekend every year (Wild Women's Weekend), I appreciate sisterhood! In this photo from 2014, you can see our shirts say: "I can't remember if I'm the good sister or the evil one." And the answer is: "It depends on the day or maybe the hour."

Tonight I had the privilege of doing a family photo shoot with four sisters, ranging in age from 10 (as of yesterday) to a senior in college (as of next week or so). Love this family. Just had to share a few sister shots...

This would be a typical shot of my sisters and me... other than the fact that now we wouldn't be able to get up once we all sat down on a bridge!

Sisters literally support each other! I believe in holding my sisters up, but I don't think any of us would want to try this these days. Too many aching backs. But we support each other in other ways!

And this is the attitude shot. "Don't mess with us!" Love little Lily. She's got it down, ha!

Fun time. Now I can't wait to see my sisters again! Wild Women's Weekend 22 is just two months away!
