Agony of de-feet... and de-arm

Carter had a league game tonight vs. the Brewers. Unfortunately, 4 of our Phillies players were no-shows, so with 8 guys we were running short on hitters, fielders and, you guessed it, pitchers.

Has Carter practiced since his last turn on the mound? No. He's not a pitcher, remember?

Well, as they say in that Pixar Robots movie... See a need, fill a need. ... And he did.

He ended up pitching 3 innings and his arm was tired. The main goal for him is just to get it to the plate. He can't aim. He can't change up the speed. He just chucks and hopes for the best. His first two innings weren't bad, only allowing one run each, but he had a crushing third inning and more runs were scored. He ended up walking 7 batters over the course of 3 innings. That isn't so bad compared to the pitcher right before him, who walked 7 in just one inning. Carter also threw some strikeouts, but ultimately, we lost 13-9.

Will he do it again? Chances are, he might have to. He might want to practice a little then. Just in case.

And of course, avoid downing 10 Chicken McNuggets right before the game.

It's all a learning curve, I guess. Now if we could just get his pitches to do that! Maybe next time.

Batter, up!
