24 German Guys

This day came too quickly. When they say time flies quickly when you are having fun, they are right. Ever notice how a tough work week can drag on and on but vacation zips by in a flash?

We weren't exactly on vacation, but we did stray from our normal routine for the past 3 weeks as we welcomed a new family member, exposed him to our version of America and came to love him.

While we don't officially say goodbye to Lukas until tomorrow when he boards the bus to Chicago at noon, we held a Farewell Dinner at the school this evening. After the meal, the German 24 performed two songs for us as their part of the program.

The first was called "Junimond," which was sung in German but still sounded great.

The second was their own made-up song sung in English to the tune of "99 Red (or Luft) Balloons." Oh yes, '80s music lives on!

We responded with a song of blessing sung to the tune of "Edelweiss" and a Power Point of music and memories. Lots of great photos of their time here. You can see the kids crying just watching it. I'll admit, I was, too!

Now Carter (the driver) and Lukas are out with the group eating smoothies and probably laughing and crying some more. Since we got home earlier than them, I did have time to upload the video of the 22 German students and 2 chaperones singing.

Enjoy. You can follow along to the Luft Balloons "24 German Guys" song with the lyrics below. (When they refer to the getting locked in prison cells, that is their county jail tour. When they refer to prom and Jesus fitting between that is our rule for slow dancing!)

24 German Guys

Do you have some time for us
Then we’ll sing a song for thee
‘bout 24 German guys
on their way to Germany

If you think ‘bout their depart
Then we’ll sing a song for thee
‘bout 24 German guys
head back home to Germany

24 German guys
really loved the USA
Already for three long weeks
That’s hard for us to believe

We had the best time of our lives
In Wisconsin with you guys.
Their stay went out so perfectly
For the 24 guys from Germany

24 German guys
did the shopping of their lives
We hope the airline won’t complain (and we’ll)
Fit that stuff into the plane.

We went to prom and dressed up fine
Dance real wild and looked define
But Jesus always fit between
The 24 guys from Germany

24 German guys
went to school to exercise
we didn’t have much time ot bore
in subjects never seen before

we tried some food we never had
the craisins tasted not too bad.
Peanut butter candy, smores
All different kinds of Oreos.

24 Germany guys
took field trips that turned out nice
Chicago was a gorgeous place
Besides a minor fire case.

We visited Wisconsin Dells
They locked us up in prison cells.
Finally we saw some snow.
We yelled in Green Bay: “Go, Pack, go!”

Outro:
24 German guys
hiding tears in their eyes
the time went by too fast for us
we don’t want back on the bus

Soon we’ll be high in the sky
Missing you and start to cry
But we know next year we’ll see
You guys again in Germany.
