Today's Blog Brought to You by the Letter A

We officially wrapped up our first season as a Cross Country family with a banquet and awards ceremony this evening. Actually, it was a potluck and the awards hadn't arrived yet, but the sentiment was there.

The coaches recognized each team member and mentioned any career highlights from the season and their PR improvement. Carter's personal record improved by more than a minute and a half, so he's got nowhere to go but up! Still, with all of his hard work and 100% participation in practices and meets, he earned a varsity letter! How cool is that?? We are very proud of him!

Gimme an A!

The boys' team was an interesting mix: 4 seniors and 4 freshman. As the coach pointed out, these young men have to take the reins next year and be leaders... and recruiters! Hmm... Come next fall, Carter and his friends will be the most experienced members of the team. That is hard to comprehend when he wasn't even running 3 months ago. What a strange and awesome turn of events!

Other than his love for baseball, this is the first sport we've heard him commit to a year in advance. I guess we've gotten over our disappointment he didn't go out for football again. As long as he is staying active and hanging out with a positive group of kids, we can't complain about which sport it is.

Of course, this also gives me incentive to keep running. One of these days I'm gonna catch that kid!
