Calm After the Storm

What an insane weather day! Somehow we (as in hubby and I) escaped the worst of it.

First we both got our steps in this morning (he walking around lake and me running) just in time. Got back to the house before 7:30 a.m. and it was raining – hard – by 7:45 a.m. That was the first round of storms that went through the area.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. it was soup city outside with 90-something degrees and humidity off the charts! By 3:30 p.m. round 2 came through, this time with some attitude. While there were trees and power lines downed and cars and houses damaged, we got nothing on Blue Jay Drive. There are still friends near and far without power, and we were spared.

So we celebrated with an excellent meal of steaks on the grill across the street, then we all went kayaking.

After seeing these weird "cotton ball" clouds we weren't sure what to expect. But we were in for a treat. The river was the calmest it's been when we've kayaked. And we saw lots of wildlife and nature's beauty. So peaceful! And so calm after such wild weather.

Take a virtual paddle with us as we go from a boat landing near the Biron Paper Mill down around "Big Island" to the Kraft Mill and back upriver. A 4.5-mile trek. 5 eagles. 2 hooting owls. 1 swan (or goose). Now I know I have to bring my good camera so I can ZOOM and FOCUS!!!

Still, you get the idea...

Duck, duck, goose? Or a young swan?

Eerie but cool mist on the water.

Me and my twin.

First eagle sighting of the evening. Oh for the need of a zoom! Next time!

Mike reflecting the sunlight.

Hello, Lily.

Nearing the south end of "Big Island" and the Paper Kraft Mill is in sight.

Trying to be artistic.

Rounding the bend and headed for home. Or back to start.

Reminded me of the Forrest Gump feather. Yes, I am weird.

 Ahhh, time to reflect.

Eagle number 4. Crazy!

Biron Mill in sight. Getting close to the boat landing – and sunset. Pretty.

Water was not as calm at the end. But we didn't mind a bit.
