Great Start

At 96 degrees, you knew it just had to be the first cross country meet of the season. Always a hot meet in Pittsville, where you just can't fight the hot August sunshine, but somehow hope to beat it.

Carter had one goal today and that was to beat his time from Pittsville last year. Spoiler alert: He did!

There is always at least one other school from our conference running with their matching Royal Blue uniforms. Ours are so similar, that I almost didn't see Carter go by. He looked good, though. He wasn't huffing and puffing as much as last year.

The impressive thing was that he had a good, strong kick at the end.

He sprinted hard to that finish line and finished in 21:31.00. That is nearly 4 minutes faster than his Pittsville finish from last year. And it was 2:15 faster than his personal record (PR) for all of last season! Way to go, kiddo! We are so proud.

My black-and-white artsy fartsy finish.

Here Dad gives him a well-deserved Gatorade or two while Coach P talks to Carter about his promising finishing time. It really is hard to surpass your best from the previous season -- especially at your first meet. It hopefully is a sign of things to come. Faster, hopefully pain-free, finishing times.

A little drop in temperature should help, too.

I'm sure Carter will just attribute it to his new spikes he HAD to have. Whatever it takes, I guess.

Should be a fun season!
