Finishing Strong

The thing about high school sports playoffs is that they always have to come to an end sometime. If you are lucky, it is at the state championship level. Sometimes, though, you are eliminated after the first round.

If you could move forward in the bracket based on how much heart you played with, I think our Royals would go a long way. But I'm not in charge of it, am I?

Since I was "off" today, I could to take in a double feature of playoff action.

First, I traveled up to Athens to watch our Royal Runners compete in the cross country sectional. Sammy, our only female runner, did well but not well enough to make the cut for state – top 5 individuals not on one of the top two teams. It's tough. I give her props for being the "sole and whole" girls team as a freshman!

Our boys were on a mission to return to state. Not sure what was in their Wheaties this morning, but they did just that! We had some great runs today. In the end, the team finished second and qualified for state next weekend in Wisconsin Rapids. For those keeping score at home, this is a 4-peat state appearance. Carter's junior and senior years plus last year and now this year. Now THAT is exciting! So proud of all these kids!

From there I traveled to the first round of football playoffs. Assumption was playing at Pittsville. What a game. It was tied 13-13 at halftime. Then tied 20-20. Unfortunately, Pittsville capitalized on some turnovers and they ended up winning 34-27. So sad for all those wonderful seniors who gave 110% all season. Always a tough loss when you know it was your last game.

Ever.

Was privileged to be a part of both events today. Feel proud to be a part of the Assumption family and admire our supportive fan base.

Win or lose, it's always a great day to be a Royal.
