Work-Life Balance

I had some inquiries about Mr. College and how his summer is going. I think the photo above illustrates his summer best.... Daddy paddling towards Carter's Castle... while Carter was working hard inside... and we were playing. That's work-life balance!

He actually is working 6 days a week (Monday-Saturday) all summer at the Biron Paper Mill so he is usually a dirty, stinkin' mess on the rare occasions I see him. He's rotating through shifts. So last week was 3-11. I don't know that he's a fan of that. So far no 11-7 shift yet. He's back to day shift today.

As for the work environment, it's best just to say it's "interesting." Other than the fact it's over a 100 degrees in most places, he is amping up his vocabulary. Cursing is somewhat of an art form there. "You have no idea," he says. And we're like, yeah, we've been around a long time. We do have a pretty good idea.

We just hope he remembers to appropriately switch to non-mill talk in certain company!

Since he has a rare two days off this week – tomorrow and Wednesday (the 4th) – he packed up the CRV right after work today and headed down to his house in Platteville for two nights. He took the bigger vehicle so he could take a desk with him and a carpet remnant for his bedroom floor. Figures he might as well move a few things at a time since he is no longer in furnished student housing!

We agree it's a well-deserved break. And I'm sure we'll find something to do around here without him.

After all, we do have another birthday in the house... tomorrow. But you didn't hear that from me.
