You Might Be From Wisconsin If...

Sort of felt like we had a typical fall day in Wisconsin!

Hubby and I went to visit our nephew Tony in Black River Falls for his last weekend there. Yay! On the way, we saw some cranberry harvesting happening but it was raining so I couldn't see much. On the way home, though, the rain had stopped and Jim stopped the vehicle for me. I had to hop over a ditch of water, but I got some photos.

If you didn't know any better, you might think it's some red clay type road surface. Until you look closer...

Bogs have been flooded and the cranberries are floating, just waiting to be scooped up!

It's just insanely cool to see and in all my years in the Rapids area, I haven't been up this close to the cranberry harvest!

It's like a long football field with Wisconsin Badger Red grass!

Like how the wind was neatly dividing the water and berry line!

The workers in the distance were doing actual harvesting – raking, loading, etc. I'll have to see that some time, too!

Got home and threw some chili in the crock pot for another Wisconsin tradition. Well, Blue Jay Drive tradition anyway. Had our annual Neighborhood Fish Boil late this afternoon.

One of the neighbors has a friend who knows what he's doing. Get the big ol' pot going so the water is boiling.
He times it so that he adds the bags of carrots first for awhile, then potatoes, then onions and finally the fish.
After that boils together for a bit, it's time to add the final ingredient...

Kerosene to the fire!

Boom! Now that's a fish boil!

Flames cook the food at warp speed!

The big flames are maybe 5 seconds long, then it's down to normal boiling.

And they scoop out the bags of cooked food! Yum, yummy! Plus there was pulled pork and brisket, not to mention salads and sweets and stuff! Good time as always.

Now it would have been a Wisconsin trifecta of sorts with a Badger win. But that game just ended badly and sadly after overtime.

You might be from Wisconsin if you realize we can do most of this all over again next weekend!
