Fare Thee Well

With the school year departure comes the departure of a handful of foreign exchange students, too. Tonight we attended a "farewell party" for one of the girls who stayed with some dear Assumption friends this school year.

Their "new daughter for life" will return home to Spain on Sunday, the same day our own baby jets off to Germany. There may be some tears that day, but ours won't compare to saying "so long" to a new family member you may or may not see again.

While we enjoyed having Lukas for a month last year, we wish we would have had him with us longer. It seemed like we were just getting to know him and bond when it suddenly was time for him to go. Of course, when you sign on for a 9-month experience, you never know if you will be so lucky to have Mr. Charming and Handsome like we did.

For our friends who decided at the last minute last August to bring Maitane into their lives, they now know the decision was worth it. It was sad but very heartwarming to see many friends stop in to say goodbye and wish her well. The Assumption family can be pretty cool sometimes!

It also was a nice night to sit around and chit chat with friends, too.  Many of us there have seniors now and are not looking forward to our own goodbyes down the road. Although there are times we wouldn't mind shipping the teen with attitude off to another country.

Oh wait, I AM doing that!

Now we just have to hope he comes back. (And he's free to bring his good-looking "brother" with him!)

36 hours to Fare Thee Well and Auf-Wiedersehen!
