It's Good to Be Old

After going to the funeral home this evening for a 19-year-old boy, it felt good to wrap up the night with a friend celebrating his 50th birthday.

The visitation for Danny was some 4 or 5 hours long and we were outside waiting in line a good half hour. And that was after 6:30. So many people came to pay respects to his parents and family. Such a sad, sad affair. And looking at all the pictures on display, we saw even more people we know who are affected by this tragedy.

Just devastating.

Afterward, it was perfect timing that our friend Michelle was having a few friends over to celebrate her hubby Joe's 50th birthday. It was good to wrap up the day – and week – on a positive note. And great to see so much of our Assumption family we don't see often enough when school is out of session.

It was also a good reminder to never take time with family or friends for granted. It's much more fun to light a Christmas-light-induced campfire than a single candle of remembrance.

Trust me... It is good to be old!
