Birthday Boy

Oh the fun never stops around here! Today was hubby's birthday! Yes, we've got quite the schedule those 5 days we both age (and so does our marriage).

We both had to work today. I think it was something like 80 degrees already at 7:30 a.m. Seemed like it. We worked hard and fast to get out at 3 p.m. -- that's our special holiday "early release" time. By then it was about 95 degrees. Would have been great to hang out in the A/C all evening but Carter had a baseball game.

As we got down to Nekoosa and noticed the bank clock said 97 degrees, we knew it was going to be a tough game. And it was. First we were down to just 8 guys so they had more ground to cover. Secondly, we fell behind by a huge margin immediately and it seemed no one had the energy to fight back. Somehow we had a miraculous inning and just about caught up. In the end, Carter had two hits and a walk and almost had heat stroke. And we lost 8-7. So close.

At that point, I don't even think the boys cared. It was just a race to get home to the A/C and shower. Carter seemed to recover OK.

After showers, we went down to the neighbors' for a backyard campfire. The kids played in the pool and the grownups acted like non-grownups. You know how that goes. Actually, it was quite the tame evening for Jim's birthday.

But technically, it's already the day after his birthday. It's one hour into Independence Day and my mind is thinking I am quite dependent on one thing right now.

Sleep.
