March Gladness

After sort of cruising through the playoffs for a regional championship, the "real" March Madness began tonight.

Our Assumption girls played their nemesis on the court -- Wausau Newman -- who they faced at state last year (and beat) on their way to the state championship. I'm not sure how grids shift from year to year, but now we were up against them earlier in the playoff process.

While the game was set in neutral territory, it was still two hours away up in Antigo. There was no question we were going to go. The team went, the band went and a fan bus went. Hubby and I drove ourselves.

Got there an hour before game time and the gym filled up fast. The Pep Band was playing right away so I managed to sneak a picture of Carter rockin' his Spirit Bibs. Cool, eh?

The game itself was insane. One word to describe it: Intense. We were behind, then ahead, then behind. Lots of lead changes as the teams stayed within about 4 points of each other the first 3 quarters. We trailed after one quarter, led by two at half and I think led by two after 3. Nerve wracking.

In the fourth quarter, we somehow got our groove back and eeked out a sectional win. Way to go, girls!! Now they will play Saturday as only one game now stands between them and a return to State.

Let's keep the March Gladness rollin'...
