When we walked out of kickboxing class at 9 a.m., this was the scene around us.
Couldn't even see very far up the "main drag." Yes, that's snow blowing about. And yes, it is May 14.
I knew it was going to be cold today – like high of 50 – but I didn't expect to see snow. Probably all those "spring" sports coaches and athletes didn't either!
Not only was is game day for Assumption Royal baseball (in Almond), softball and soccer (both at home), but it was recreational baseball and softball opening day and your normal kids soccer Saturday. B-r-r-r-r. While the sun came out and melted the snow. It did not add warmth to the day.
I opted to go to the Royal Rumble softball tourney in town. Saw the first game at 10 a.m. and we won. It was shortened to 5 innings because the second field was too wet and they planned to get all 6 games of the tournament played on one field. So shorter games, which was probably appreciated by the fans in winter coats and players with hand warmers in their pockets. Crazy!
Reports from hubby included a first game loss after 13, yes, 13 long, chilly innings. And a second game loss of 13-0. If you wondered what was worse than playing in the freezing cold, its playing in it AND losing. Shucks.
I was available to go on the road and watch, but I wanted to be home to get random stuff done while keeping an eye on Carter and his friend. Got lots done. Finally made the other 100 mints for the party (while simultaneously finishing Season 3 of OITNB). Also got the centerpieces together, all the supplies counted up and bagged by grouping like dinnerware, napkins and utensils, then decorations, etc. (Me OCD? Never. Just trying to make it easy on myself in two weeks.) Also got a freelance project finished and designed a grad party announcement for a friend. Did some baking for tomorrow's Book Club meeting. Organized some bills and paperwork and just plain old boring, random "to do" list items in the warmth of my home!
Carter had to work this evening and Coach is hanging out at an establishment in town. Could watch whatever I want on the Hallmark Channel, but am DVR-ing it instead and will probably lay on my heated mattress pad and read.
That's my spring sport for you.
