Senior Moments :: Recognition

Today was the Assumption Senior Awards Assembly, where they presented seniors awards, honors and scholarships in front of the student body and parents. Of course, greeting us in the lobby were photos of all the upcoming graduates and their baby photos. Awwww....

We were informed ahead of time that Carter would be receiving some sort of recognition. I figured that was referring to his Four Year Band Award since I was under the impression most scholarship recipients knew of their awards ahead of time.

I was surprised then when the Incourage Community Foundation Scholarships were announced that he was among the winners! He received the Earl and Ellen Young Memorial Endowment Scholarship for "demonstrating academic promise and service to community." For that one, he had to submit an essay, sharing a personal experience or describe any attributes that influenced your career choice.

What a surprise and what an honor!

He did get a plaque for four years in band and also a senior athlete one for 4 years varsity cross country and 2 years varsity baseball.

Then we found out why his band director really wanted him there.

She presented Carter with the John Philip Sousa Band Award "in recognition of outstanding achievement and interest in instrumental music, for singular merit in loyalty and cooperation, and for displaying those high qualities of conduct that school instrumental music requires." For that honor, he received a trophy-type award, certificate and the tie pin he is wearing in the photo below.

That is way awesome!

But then, we think our senior is, too. Not that we're biased.

Maybe a little.
